Expert team coordinated by Marek Čaněk in the Labcit project on EU labour citizenship and migration

Marek Čaněk organises expert team in the the project Labcit coordinated by Multicultural Center Prague together with 11 partner organizations (universities, research centers, NGOs, ombudsman) collected migrant workers' testimonies about serious labour rights violations in the EU. Kim Scipes research trip to Philippines

Kim Scipes, Purdue University North Central (Westville, Indiana, USA) spent three weeks in the Philippines on a research trip (April 27-May 15, 2015), resuming his studies on the KMU Labor Center.  Scipes participated in the International Solidarity Affair, focused mostly on Metro Manila, and then traveled to Mindanao and Negros on his own afterwards, visiting banana, palm oil and sugar worker communities.  This was Scipes’ first visit to the country since 1994, and he plans on updating his 1996 book, KMU:  Building Genuine Trade Unionism in the Philippines, 1980-1994.  (Quezon City:  New Day Publishers.)

The prize for Ch.Tilly's paper awarded by the Mexico Section of the Latin American Studies Association

The 2015 Prize of the Mexico Section of the Latin American Studies Association was awarded to Chris Tilly's paper (2014) Beyond “contratos de protección”: Strong and weak unionism in Mexican retail enterprises, American Research Review 49.

Andreas Bieler - BISA-HEU Teaching Award

Both Adam Morton and myself were jointly awarded the 2012/13 British International Studies Association (BISA)-Higher Education Academy (HEA) Award for Excellence in Teaching International Studies linked to our co-taught MA module Theories & Concepts in International Relations.

Dilek Hattatoğlu - Emerald Literati Network 2012 Award!

Dilek Hattatoğlu has been awarded the Emerald Literati Network 2012 Outstanding Author Contribution Award for her chapter "Gender and Labor within the Turkish Context of Local Development in the Era of Globalization" in the book series Advances in Gender Research Vol. 15, 2011.

Moreover, she has been promoted to associate professor of sociology at Mugla Sitki Kocman University, Turkey.

Andreas Bieler - Research fellowship at CAS in Oslo.

Andreas Bieler has been awarded a Research Fellowship (£45000) by the Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) in Oslo/Norway. He will spend the academic year 2013/14 in Oslo to work on the project 'Globalization and the possibility of transnational actors - the case of trade unions' as part of a Norwegian and international research team, led by Professor Knut Kjeldstadli, University of Oslo.

Ercüment Celik - "Young Social Scientists Award 2011", Turkey

Congratulations to Ercüment Celik for being awarded the "Young Social Scientists Award 2011" of the Turkish Social Sciences Association for his PhD Thesis "Street Traders: A Bridge between Trade Unions and Social Movements in Contemporary South Africa".

The thesis was published as a book in 2010 by Nomos Publishers in Germany. The prize-giving Ceremony will take place on 14 December 2011 at the National Congress of Social Sciences in Ankara, Turkey.
